Q: What books and subjects do you read/learn about in 10 grade english?
A: At my HS in NYC we do genre using lit. from around the world; Julius Caesar; the novels Fahrenheit 451, To Kill a Mockingbird and Catcher in the Rye, a modern play (this year Twelve Angry Men) all in the first semester. The second semester is split between oral communication (making five speeches) and media studies. Additionally, we do ten vocabulary words a week from Warner's Grammar, Fourth Course and do a major research paper using MLA style. Grammar is handled through writing assignments tied to the readings, research paper, and analysis/reaction papers for the communication and media units.
